Monkeypox Virus Vaccine: Monkeypox virus is spreading rapidly in different countries of the world. In such a situation, vaccine is the only recourse for its prevention. A research has claimed that the recommended Vaccinia virus (VACV) based vaccines can prove effective in building a strong immunity against the monkeypox virus.
Let us tell you that Vaccinia Virus is a large complex virus belonging to the Poxvirus family. Since the first case of this new virus came to light in the month of May this year, this virus has infected more than 52 thousand people in 90 countries on sight.
Features of VACV-Based Vaccines
Matthew McKay of the University of Melbourne said specific VACV-based vaccines have previously demonstrated high efficacy against monkeypox virus and are considered an important outbreak control measure. However, he termed it a novel monkeypox virus. We still lack scientific data to determine how well the human immune response from VACV-based vaccines will recognize MPXV-2022 and provide protection against disease, he said.
Professor Ahmed Abdul Qadir of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology said that based on our analysis, it can be inferred that the immune responses generated by VACV-based vaccines will continue to do a good job of recognizing and responding to MPXV-2022, as in the past. It happened in the case of monkeypox virus. He said that our data provides further support for the use of globally recommended vaccines to combat MPXV-2022.
WHO made this recommendation
The World Health Organization recommends primary preventive vaccination against the new monkeypox virus. McKay said that while bringing together sequencing and immunological data provides evidence to predict a stronger immune response, clinical studies are needed to determine the precise efficacy of these vaccines against MPXV-2022. .
