In Bangladesh, women’s participation is gradually increasing at all levels of society including administration, justice, business and commerce. The media and entertainment industries are no exception. The participation of women in various fields of film including producers, directors is increasing day by day. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is trying her best to empower women.
In the technical/parallel session on ‘Media and Entertainment’ as part of the ‘International Women Entrepreneurship Conference 2022’ jointly organized by Bangladesh-India Business Council and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) at the Utsav Ballroom of Hotel Radisson Blue Water Garden in the capital on Thursday (November 24) morning. State Minister for Culture KM Khalid said these things in the speech of the chief guest.
Renowned film maker Raihan Rafi, Executive Director of Asian Marketing Communications Limited Ferdous Hasan Neville, Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation founder Durjoy Rahman, Greece author, script writer and film producer James P Mimikos and filmmaker Rubaiyat Hossain spoke as guest speakers in the session. Corporate lawyer Barrister Miti Sanjana and Niasa Islam, Founder Director of Neo Ventures acted as moderators of the event.
KM Khalid said that film is one of the most important elements of culture. Although it is under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as per the Rules of Business. He said, for the development and promotion of culture including film at the grass root level, the Ministry of Culture has taken the initiative to build ‘upazila cultural center’ which will have cineplex, multipurpose hall and state-of-the-art auditorium.
The state minister said that through the Ministry of Culture, we have already provided a grant for the production of the film ‘Bangamata’. He also announced that the ministry would grant a grant for the production of a film directed by a woman director, subject to the receipt of a good story and director.
