Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that there are 60 to 70 lakh drug addicts in Bangladesh, we will do dope test if we think that the university students are addicted to drugs or not.
He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the seminar titled ‘Role of private sector in curing drug addiction’ organized at Sirdap Auditorium in the capital on Monday (September 26). At this time, the minister assured the government to support the establishment of drug addiction treatment centers in the private sector.
The Home Minister said that the practice of dope test of those who will be selected at the beginning of the job is going to be completely taken up. Police-BGB dope test is in practice everywhere.
Commenting that there are dishonest people in all cases, the minister said, heroin turns into powder after recovery or during testing. Just as many people are coming to the border with their eyes closed, in the police too, some dishonest person is giving powder to the lab after recovering Yaba, this is also true. That is why we have strong drug control laws. Law is equal for all.
The Home Minister said that the prison capacity in Bangladesh is 41,000 plus. It will increase in a few days. But there are always 80 thousand to more than 1 lakh prisoners. 60 percent of them are drug dealers. Witnesses are not available during the trial. And we have a long entanglement in the case. There this drug case is lost.
He also said that our drug addiction treatment centers do not have experienced doctors or psychiatrists. No one from upper and middle class go to Tejgaon government drug treatment center.
