Deputy Secretary AKM Rezaul Karim Ratan lost his job due to rape allegations. The government sent him on compulsory retirement. He was also arrested while on temporary suspension in the rape case. After being found guilty in the departmental case, the education cadre officer lost his job.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury signed the notification on Tuesday (November 22), according to the responsible sources of the Ministry of Public Administration.
However, in the departmental case of the Ministry of Public Administration, the reason for sending the deputy secretary to compulsory retirement has been shown on the charge of ‘misconduct’. Deputy Secretary Rezaul Ratan started government service as a 14th batch officer of the education cadre.
Earlier, a college student filed a rape case against Ratan, the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Culture. The student had filed another case against Ratan alleging that he had beaten her up in the month before filing the case. In both cases, Ratan was temporarily suspended by the Ministry of Public Administration after the Dhanmondi police filed a charge sheet in the court. Because of this, the student complained that the married Ratan tried to rape her again.
According to the relevant sources, Rezaul Karim Ratan had a physical relationship with a female student of Mohammadpur Government College in 2017 under the guise of marriage. After that, when a dispute arose between them, the student filed a case against the deputy secretary.
It is to be noted that Rezaul Karim Ratan was the Principal of Mohammadpur Government College at the time of the incident. After that, he became the Deputy Secretary and got the responsibility as the Director of the National Book Center under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
