Police recovered the body of a student of Islamic University (EB). The police recovered his body from the Gangni Upazila Health Complex at midnight on Thursday (September 8). The name of the deceased student is Nishat Tasneem Urmi (24).
Nishat is a fourth year student of folklore studies department. She is the daughter of Golam Kibria, a resident of Chandpur village of Gangni upazila.
According to the police, marks of torture were found on the victim’s body. In this incident, the family of the deceased has accused the in-laws of murder. Meherpur’s Gangni police station initially filed a case of wrongful death, but later the victim’s father filed a murder case as a plaintiff.
Nishat’s husband Prince and father-in-law Hashem Shah have been arrested in this case.
Meanwhile, the classmates of the deceased Nishat formed a human chain in front of the Gangni Press Club in the afternoon demanding an investigation into the murder. The body of the deceased was buried in the afternoon after the post-mortem.
Gangni Police Station OC Abdur Razzak told reporters that Urmi’s body has injury marks. The cause of death will be known after the autopsy report. Urmi’s father filed a murder case. We have arrested the accused Prince and his father. We assume that this incident happened due to dowry.
