Japanese encephalitis virus has knocked in the country this year. For the first time in the last three years, the first case has been registered in Pune. According to media reports, due to deteriorating health of the 4-year-old child, he was on ventilator support for 9 days and remained in ICU for 15 days. Japanese encephalitis is considered extremely fatal at times. This proves fatal. Doctors say that there is a need to protect by knowing its symptoms.
What is Japanese Encephalitis?
Japanese encephalitis is an infection caused by a virus. It is related to dengue, yellow fever and West Nile virus. The virus is transmitted to humans by the bite of infected Culex species mosquitoes and mostly Culex tritaeniorhynchus. According to the World Health Organisation, the spread of Japanese encephalitis virus is high in 24 countries in South-East Asia and the Western Pacific region.
What are Japanese Encephalitis Symptoms?

Vaccination campaign started in Karnataka
In view of the danger of Japanese encephalitis, preparations are on to start vaccination campaign in different parts of the country. Japanese encephalitis vaccine campaign has started for 48 lakh children in Karnataka. At present, free vaccine is being given to children in 10 districts of Karnataka by Genevac. This vaccine drive will last for 3 weeks. Is a single dose vaccine prepared from an Indian strain (Kolar- 821564XY) of Japanese encephalitis virus. According to statistics, about 68,000 cases of Japanese encephalitis are reported every year in the country.
