Atletico played five matches in the league. In the meantime, if you look at how Diego Simeone has used Griezmann, it is clear that they have broken the terms with Barca.
It can be seen that Griezmann was brought into the field against Hetaf in the 62nd minute. Apart from this, Griezmann came on the field as a substitute for 62 minutes against Villarreal, 64 minutes against Valencia, 63 minutes against Sociedad and 61 minutes against Porto.
The French forward brought on loan from Barcelona is deliberately playing less time – that’s Barcelona’s claim. The Camp Nou club also has arguments behind this claim.
Barcelona included a condition on Griezmann’s playing time in the loan deal. If he played longer than the specified time, Barcelona would have to pay an additional fee of four million euros – such was the condition.
No matter what Atlético do to avoid the extra fee, Barcelona feel Griezmann has already played too long. So they owe Atlético four million euros. And Barca has decided to sue Atletico to collect that money.
According to Mundo Deportivo, a media outlet based in Catalonia, Barcelona did not get a solution even after telling Atlético. That’s why the Camp Nou club is thinking about going to court. Barca sent Griezmann, 31, to Atletico on loan for two years in August 2021. The deal was that Atletico would pay Barcelona an additional €40 million if he played half or more (half a full match in the case of a season, 45 minutes in the case of a match).
According to the department that looks after Barcelona’s legal affairs, Atletico overplayed Griezmann in breach of contract in the 2021-22 season. Because, Griezmann has been played in 30 of the 37 matches that he was ready to play. Griezmann has been played 80 percent of the time, where only 50 percent of the time meets the criteria.
Atletico coach Diego Simeone said of giving Griezmann more ‘playing time’, I am one of the club, I work and will do it in the club’s interest.
